I was thinking that too... have armour and weapons sets that level with you so you could wear your nice armour and weapon set throughout the game and maybe get upgrades to the armour/weapons, like the heroes get armour upgrades nowfrom the competitive missions

In the spirit of pure speculation, I think it would be cool if there were 5 quest chains associated with the HOM. One is available at a very early level. The next is available at 1/4 of the way thru the game (level 20 of 80, for example), and so on. After completing each quest, which also gives some exp & gold, you then get your special, cosmetic item.

Getting everything at the beginning would be a little lame.

GWAMM could get you a Divine Aura - it's cosmetic and it kinda fits (especially now HoM is apparently moving towards being account-based) - your ancestor was a GWAMM - you have a touch of the divine about you.

(I really hope not though, as I'll never find the time or inclination to reach GWAMM, but I do so love the aura.)

OT: As far as I'm aware (which is probably going to be proved otherwise) you don't start in the HoM, it's something you access later on. Definately cosmetic only. Also... no HoM update this month! Golly... I think that when EOTN came out it was totally cosmetic, and there was no transitioning programming or anything at in that sense.

I hope not. I'd rather see a weapons crafter in a place you can get to after being "ascended", who can craft a unique skin for all sorts of weapons if you have the weapon shrine filled in your HoM. Or better still: one skin for the destroyer series, and another for the Tormented series. Could be 2 crafters in 2 different areas.

Same for armor. You can't get it untill you're already far in the game. And with the no-level cap (or high level cap) I do hope that at some point armor levels along with you liek heroes armor does. Or perhaps that you can "upgrade" your current armor at crafters in cities.

It's a brand new game, so anything can happen. Don't be so pessimistic

Also: a special pet and/or sidekick for the friendship shrine doesn't have to be ranger only. Perhaps in GW2 ALL professions can have a pet companion.

edit: and yes, quests chained to each shrine in order to unlock the special item would be cool!

Mentioning Divine Aura made me think. Since GW2 Collector's Edition will most likely roll out with some exclusive perks, how will the HoM extras relate to those of the CE? Arguably, CE extras have so far gone beyond merely cosmetic since one can sell the minis for a big lump of cash. It wouldn't make economical sense to have some of the extras overlap since those that grind their HoM in GW form a large percentage of potential purchasers of the eventual GW2 CE. I wouldn't be surprised if CE would again come with a flashy dance and one sellable mini, and HoM would indeed bestow Divine Aura (evidence suggests that r5 and full HoM is a sufficient accomplishment) and other stuff that is customized.

It has been confirmed that any character will indeed have the option to bring along a companion (a customizable hero instead of a pet) that doesn't use up a party slot, and the power of the main character is scaled depending on whether the companion is present or not. It's not too far fetched an idea to speculate that there will be a set of 'regular' companions to choose from but filling the Friendship statue will unlock a special companion.
